12 Voltas à Gafa Cycling Race in Bombarral

The 12 Voltas à Gafa in Bombarral was a fantastic cycling race to watch — the final event of Portugal's national cycling season. Organised by the Municipality of Bombarral , the Bombarral Volunteer Fire Brigade, and the Lisbon Cycling Association, the race attracted plenty of enthusiastic local supporters. The atmosphere was probably even more electric given that La Vuelta had passed through on Stage 2 just a month earlier. Riders tackled twists, turns, and cobblestones under sunny skies as the crowd cheered them on. Pedro Pinto of the Portuguese Efapel team took the win and rounded off a great day of racing.

For me it was also a fantastic opportunity to indulge in sports photography. Having already captured images from La Vuelta Stage 2 and Stage 11 in recent weeks, this race in Bombarral was my third chance to photograph top-level cycling. Watching it unfold so close to home while shooting the action was a real highlight of the season.
