On holiday in Lanzarote, taking some photographs of the volcanic landscape one evening, when some tourists walked into my view. The colours and light were so strong that these pictures, more or less, took themselves. The contrast between the billiard table smooth tarmac and the razor-sharp rocks in the landscape all around was incredible. I missed not having my tripod and found it challenging to balance my camera on the rocks, and there isn’t much in the way of soft grass or plants that I could use, so I just snapped away. I wasn’t the only one around taking photos, but then it was August and in the middle of the tourist season, so there were a few others around admiring the evening light. But the light on the night I went out seemed to bring out the incredible colour of the rocks and area about, and the cloud was a bonus and only added to the drama.
The colours in the rocks are incredible, especially at sunset.
Smooth roads contrast with the rocky landscape.
